‘San Zoveto’ which later became ‘Sangioveto’, was the name commonly used in the past in Chianti for the Sangiovese varietal. The Sangioveto di Coltibuono was created to honour a tradition dating back to the Middle Ages. It is only produced in exceptional vintages.
Critical Acclaim
Falstaff: 94 points
“Shiny ruby with a slight garnet shimmer. Clear and intense on the nose, presents itself with pronounced cherry notes, some pomegranate. A lot of juicy cherry fruit on the palate, opens up with hearty, gripping tannin, in the rear area rich depth.
James Suckling: 92 points
“This is a very subtle Tuscan red with some reduction, but opening up (upon decanting) to red cherries, red plums, citrus and cedar. Medium-bodied and lightly woven, it appears quite savory and reserved, but also has some rather powerful tannins thrown in the mix. A quirky, traditional-style wine.” JAMES SUCKLING
Robert Parker: 92 points
“Made only in the best years, the 2015 Sangioveto sees longer skin-maceration times than others. This ultimately results in an ample and generous expression of this classic indigenous variety. The bouquet is not as pinpoint as the Chianti Classico Riserva from the 2016 vintage, yet that broad and rich quality is something we associate with this warm and sunny 2015 vintage. Here, you get sweeping aromas of black cherry, plum and mild spice, making it ideal for a pappardelle with a wild boar sauce.” ROBERT PARKER
