Etna Rosso DOC is a denomination unique to the slopes of Mount Etna, the most active Volcano in the European Continent. Vineyards are at 850m a.s.l. and the grapes grow on volcanic soils in the Northern slopes of the mountain, Contrada S. Lorenzo, regarded as the best area for slow maturation and climatic conditions for Nerello Mascalese based wines. A wine which, as it ages, takes on a ruby red color tending towards garnet. The scent is of a rich floral bouquet with notes of cocoa and coffee. The ageing in wood gives Etna Rosso an harmonious, dry, savory taste, paired with good silky tannins. A wine to drink now or to age for further 10 years in the cellar to appreciate the mineral notes deriving from the compounds in the volcanic soils that increase in intensity with age.
