The name, Sodale, derives from the Italian sodalizio which translates as solidarity, or a strong bond. Sodale refers as much to the bond between the estate’s founders, Riccardo and Renzo, and their daughters, Dominga, Marta and Enrica, now managing the estate as it does the bond between this daily drinkerand the Cotarella Family’s flagship Merlot, Montiano.
Sodale is obtained from 100% Merlot grapes grown on calcareous soils rich in clay, 300 metres above sea level. Fermentation takes place in steel with a maceration on the skins for 18 days. Ageing in Never and Troncais barriques for a period of 9 months.
Ruby red colour with purple reflections. On the nose, it releases aromas of cherry and ripe berries that combine with notes of vanilla and sweet spices. On the palate, it is soft and enveloping, exhaled by a full taste and a finely smooth tannic texture. Lingering finish. At the table, it goes well with cured meats and semi-aged cheeses, as well as succulent earthy recipes based on vegetables or red meats.
